Our Body
We are a strongly intergenerational body. Sunday morning attendance is around 100 people. Dress trends toward business-casual, though you can find anything from jeans to suits. People are friendly, though with several visitors each week, you’ll need to be bold and introduce yourself.
Our Gatherings
On Sunday morning at 9:30am we come together for an hour for our D6 Sunday Small Groups, in which we learn about God’s Word and its application to all areas of life. Following that, we begin our Sunday morning service at 10:30am. As we find our seats in the chapel, we fellowship with those around us and prepare our hearts for the service. (Families, please note that check-in for nursery and children's classes during the morning service begins at 10:15am. We recommend arriving by 10:15am to allow time for the check-in process.)
Music
The music we sing at Tippett's Chapel is a blend of old and new. We love the doctrinally rich hymns of the sixteenth century and we find blessing in the choruses of the twenty-first. Most of us who are comfortable with music from one particular era have discovered, while at Tippett's, that we have come to enjoy other songs we had not previously encountered. We strongly prefer congregational singing, which emphasizes the gathered body singing praise to God with one voice, over performed music, which tends to spotlight the abilities of some while encouraging passivity in the rest.
The Order of Service
Our service formally begins at 10:30am. During this time, we sing several songs, offer prayers of praise and confession to God, hear Scripture read, and give our offerings and tithes.
Preaching
Sermons at Tippett's Chapel are typically expository, meaning that it seek to focus on the central points of the Biblical passage we are studying. Sermons usually last around forty minutes and are packed with material for reflection. Our series often alternate between the Old and New Testaments. All preaching is driven by the Gospel, the Bible’s main message of God saving sinners through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
After the Sermon
We sing a song encapsulating the theme of the sermon and then take a moment for reflection on the Word of God, before being sent with a benediction out into our community. A typical service is finished by 11:45 am. Following service, parents pick up their children from the fellowship hall where coffee and light refreshments are available. It is not unusual to find folks talking over the sermon and events of the past week long after service is over..
